1.3% Agriculture Growth Not Sufficient For Food Security Attainment: NIGERIA’S agricultural productivity which is currently growing at 1.3 percent is insufficient to meet food and raw materials demands, Chairman, Board of Directors, Sterling Bank Plc, Mr Asue Ighodalo has said. Ighodalo made this known at the 4th Agriculture Summit Africa (ASA) 2021 organized by Sterling Bank in Lagos.
Themed: “Building the New Agri Order”, the Sterling Bank boss noted that it was unacceptable and an ironic paradox to have raw materials shortages and food insecurity amidst so many fertile and arable lands across Africa. Reduce Cost of Feeding in Livestock farming by Using Hydroponic Systems

Hydroponic system in agriculture is a type of horticulture and a subset of hydroculture which involves growing plants (usually crops) without soil, by using mineral nutrient solutions in an aqueous solvent in tray-like structures to hold the solvent and give room for plant to grow. Terrestrial plants may grow with their roots exposed to the nutritious liquid, or, in addition, the roots may be physically supported by an inert medium such as perlite, gravel, or other substrates.

Success Story on Agri-Trading

My friend who is studying medicine in Georgia contacted me to help check out farmland in Abuja/Keffi. While in Keffi, I observed Igbos who trade on motor spare parts, would buy commodities like beans, sesame seed and store in their houses.

I saw an opportunity to buy commodities and send them down to my location in Asaba, as well as engage in storage with 100k I had. I also started placing adverts on agro commodities and several company agents would request for one commodity or another and in my quest to get those commodities in large quantities at an affordable price, I traveled to many rural villages in Nasarawa and Kaduna.

Thousands of farmers who are part of WACOT Rice’s out-grower programme in the state now get the required expertise and support to get good farm yields from both farming seasons. This is contrary to the old practice when these farmers relied only on wet season for their production, which was usually marred by floods.
