Shiftting cultivation is

start to decrease and then abandon the land and move to a new plot allowing the old plot to revert into natural vegetation until the fertility has been restored. The period of cultivation is usually terminated when the soil start showing signs of exhaustion, the length of time the field is cultivated is usually less than the time it is allowed to regenerate. This method in common in developing countries where farmers apply slash and burn method or other form of land clearing.

Shifting cultivation is
productively efficient because the plot of land are used are the peak of their
fertility but it is also deemed to be a wasteful method because it causes
forest loss, it is one of the most cause of deforestation because of the
movement from one plot to another, the new plot will need to be cleared. Also
land will not be well managed and utilised because large expanse of land will
be required in which a portion of it is being used at a point in time. It is
also one of the causes of global warming.
